The Studentenstadt underground station (abbreviation of the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft : ST ) is an above-ground underground station in the Freimann district of the Bavarian capital, Munich . It is located on the main line 1 of the Munich subway and is served by the U6 line.
history
The underground station is part of the oldest Munich underground line, which runs between the Kieferngarten and Goetheplatz stations . October 19, 1968 was the first of several dates before the line opened when citizens were allowed to travel by underground on sections of the new line. This was also the first time that trains entered the Studentenstadt underground station. The official commissioning of the entire line including the station was on October 19, 1971.
In 2005 and 2006 the station was renovated. The elevator was retrofitted and the platform was raised by five centimeters so that one can steplessly board the subway.
Location and surroundings
The train station is next to Ungererstraße , which runs parallel to the east , on the other side of which is the student town of Freimann , which gave the train station its name. Grasmeierstrasse, which branches off at the station, leads to the northern part of the English Garden . To the west of the train station, beyond an adjacent park-and-ride car park, federal motorway 9 runs , behind which there is extensive commercial space in the vicinity of Frankfurter Ring .
The next stop out of town is the Freimann underground station . On the 1087 meters between the two stations there is a siding to the Munich Nordring , which is crossed here as well as the A9 and the Frankfurter Ring. The Alte Heide underground station follows 660 meters into the city and is already below the surface. Marienplatz train station in central Munich is about 5.7 kilometers and an 11-minute drive away.
Station complex
construction
From the middle of the platform, an escalator and a fixed staircase as well as an elevator lead to a barrier floor that crosses under the tracks and Ungererstraße. An escalator and a fixed staircase lead from there to the park-and-ride car park west of the train station, on the other side of Ungererstrasse and between the train station and Ungererstrasse to the surface. The latter access also has an elevator.
layout
The station is partially covered by a concrete ceiling, on the underside of which aluminum slats and light strips are attached. The ceiling is supported by pillars clad with aluminum panels.
traffic
The U6 runs every 10 minutes at the station, every 5 minutes during peak times. Out of town, roughly every second underground train ends in Fröttmaning.
The neighboring bus station makes the station an important transfer station. The Metrobus line 50, which leads to Bogenhausen and via Parkstadt Schwabing to Milbertshofen , and the express bus line X50 stop here . The city bus routes 177 and 181, which end here, connect the area around Frankfurter Ring or Freimann and the Auensiedlung to the train station. In addition, the regional bus routes 231 and 233 connect the train station with the village of Unterföhring . The neighboring park-and-ride car park also enables you to switch from private transport to the subway.
