UGC 10214 , also Tadpole Galaxy , resulting in German called Kaulquappengalaxie is, is a barred spiral galaxy of Hubble type SBc in the constellation Draco the northern sky . It is an estimated 428 million light years from the Milky Way , with the tail stretching about 280,000 light years in length.

tail

The tail comes from an encounter with a smaller galaxy , whose gravitational forces sucked stars, gas and dust out of the original galaxy. This material forms the tail with its numerous star formation regions and star clusters . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class of narrow filament galaxies .

Others

In the galaxy itself, the supernovae SN 2007cu (Type-II) and SN 2008dq (Type-Ic) have been observed.
