NGC 2418 = Arp 165 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Gemini on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 221 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light-years across.
The galaxy NGC 2411 is located in the same area of the sky .
Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class of diffuse filament galaxies .
The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on January 23, 1874 .
