NGC 3656 = Arp 155 is a galaxy of Hubble type E? in the constellation Great Bear in the north star sky . It is estimated to be 132 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter.
Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class of galaxies with internal absorption .
The supernovae SN 1963K ( Type Ia ) and SN 1973C were observed here.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 14, 1789 .
