In the latter competition he scored on November 3, 1982 in a 4-1 win in the second round second leg in Munich against the reigning English cup winner Tottenham Hotspur with the goal to 2-0 in the 52nd minute and his only goal at international club level. Against the English champions Aston Villa , he lost the final of the European Cup with Bayern Munich in 1982 . Horsmann played 242 Bundesliga games for FC Bayern from 1975 to 1983 and scored 20 goals.

For the 1983/84 season he moved to France for the first division club Stade Rennes and played 32 of 38 league games. After the climber was relegated back to Ligue 2 as bottom of the table , Horsmann returned to Germany. For 1. FC Nürnberg he played 13 games in the second division and was dismissed without notice in October 1984 after he and five other players demanded the replacement of coach Heinz Höher and organized a training boycott.
