Václav Hladký (born November 14, 1990 in Brno , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech football player in the position of goalkeeper who is under contract with Salford City with play in the EFL League Two .

Club career

Career start at home

Václav Hladký was born on November 14, 1990 in Brno and began his club career as a football player in 1996 at his home club FC Sparta Brno . There he went through all junior league classes before he joined FK Šardice in 2003 , around 40 kilometers southeast of Brno. The young goalkeeper only lasted a year in Šardice , then he went back to his hometown, where he joined the traditional club FC Zbrojovka Brno . After only a few years in the club's own offspring, he made his debut in men's football on May 10, 2006, when he appeared for the B-team of FC Zbrojovka Brno, which was then playing in the Czech second division . In the years that followed, however, he was primarily a member of the club's youth and was rarely used for the club's second combat team. In the years 2006 to 2009 there were only nine league appearances in men's football. In 2009, the then 18-year-old received his first professional contract and sat for the first time in three consecutive league games in April and May 2009 on the professional bench without being used.

Loan time and breakthrough with the professionals

In order to gain match practice, he was awarded by the club's management in autumn 2009 to the then third division club MSK Břeclav . At the club with game operations in the Moravskoslezská fotbalová liga , he was used in 15 league games, of which he remained in six games without conceding a goal. After his return to Brno, he spent the spring of 2010 in the B team of his home club and was there in seven championship games between the posts. As early as autumn 2010 he came again as a loan player to the Czech-Austrian border town of Břeclav , where he was used in ten third division games at the club from the three-country area - the Slovak border is also only ten kilometers away. In addition, there was also a use for the B-team of the club with play in the fourth-class Divize, which consists of several seasons . From the spring of 2011 he was back in the regular squad of the second team of FC Zbrojovka Brno (eight appearances) and was the most frequently used goalkeeper of the B-team in the following season 2011/12.

After sitting on the professional team's bench in a championship game for the first time in over three years in the third round match of the 2012/13 season against Viktoria Plzen , it was not until the end of the season before the now 22-year-old goalkeeper made his professional debut. In the last third of the season coach Petr Čuhel was increasingly considered as a second goalkeeper and during this time mostly on the bench, he completed his first professional game in the penultimate championship game 2012/13 when he lost 2-0 to on May 26, 2013 the 1. FK Příbram guarded the gate of his team over the full 90 minutes. Furthermore, he was awarded this season to the fourth-rate amateur club SK Líšeň , for which he made eleven championship appearances.

After mostly veteran Martin Doležal and Radek Petr had alternated in the goal of Zbrojovka Brno in the 2012/13 season , the now coach Ludevít Grmela Hladký started as a regular goalkeeper from the beginning of the 2013/14 season . It was only in mid-April 2014 that Hladký let the aforementioned Martin Doležal go first. Over the entire season, he completed 25 of 30 possible league games and finished ninth in the table with the team coached by Václav Kotal since the beginning of September 2013 . The 1.89 m tall goalkeeper also played four of his club's six games in the 2013/14 Czech Cup , when Brno lost 2-0 to Viktoria Plzen in the semi-finals. Also at the beginning of the 2014/15 season , Hladký was number 1 in the goal of Zbrojovka Brno; until he had to leave the pitch in the twelfth round against the capital city club Sparta Prague after just under an hour due to a red card , he had completed all the minutes of his team up to this point.

Even after the game suspension, Kotal continued to use him as a regular before he decided at the end of February 2015 to let new signing Dušan Melichárek go first. Until the end of the season, when Zbrojovka Brno took 14th place, Hladký was only number 2 on the bench. In addition to Melichárek, Doležal also made two championship appearances this season. Parallel to his assignments for the professional team, Hladký was temporarily deployed for the same team after the B-team was dissolved or transformed into a U-21 youth team. In the years 2012 to 2015 he played 18 league games for this youth team, half of which he played to zero.

Moved to Slovan Liberec

After more than a decade with the same club, at the end of the season there was a change within the league for the now 24-year-old goalkeeper. The reigning cup winner Slovan Liberec from the north of the Czech Republic secured the services of the 42-time first division keeper. In the course of the 2015/16 season, Hladký was the club's goalkeeper most frequently in the squad, but was unable to assert himself as the first goalkeeper against Tomáš Koubek , who was around two years younger and became a Czech national player this season . The first competitive game he was present was the Czech Super Cup game against the reigning champions Vikoria Pilsen, in which he had to sit on the bench and which his team lost just 2-1. Neither in qualifying for the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League nor after the successful qualification did Hladký appear internationally for Liberec, but instead sat on the bench in all games without being used. In the league, it wasn't long before Jindřich Trpišovský put his trust in him and used him in the third round of the Synot Liga 2015/16 in a 1-1 home draw against FK Dukla Prague for the full 90 minutes. Further appearances followed in round 9 against the Bohemians Prague 1905 , in round 11 against FC Vysočina Jihlava , in round 14 against Sparta Prague , and in round 28 also against Sparta Prague. He lost only one of his five championship appearances this season. As a regular goalkeeper, however, he acted at the Czech Cup games 2015/16 , when he was on the pitch in all five games of his team for the entire season, brought the team through two penalty kicks and in the end just under the quarter-finals with a total score of 2: 3 against Sparta Prague left. In the league he reached third place with his team in the final standings, with the team never slipping below fifth place in the table throughout the season.

The following season 2016/17 was similar to the previous one for the 1.86 m tall goalkeeper. Although he was most often in the squad this year, he was behind the new signing, the Slovak goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka only substitute. He sat on the bench in 27 championship games in the 2016/17 season , in one game he was not part of the squad and only played two league games. On August 21, 2016, he guarded the goal (0-0) in the four-round match against his hometown club Zbrojovka Brno and was between the posts in round 22 in a 2-0 home win over MFK Karviná for the full 90 minutes. While he followed the successful qualification for the 2016/17 Europa League from the bench, he made his first international competitive appearance in men's football in the group stage that was less successful for the club. In the 3-0 away defeat against Fiorentina on November 3, 2016, he played instead of Dúbravka. As in the previous year, Hladký also acted as a regular goalkeeper in the 2016/17 Czech Football Cup and even led his team as team captain in the first game . However, Slovan Liberec did not make it beyond the quarter-finals this season either. In the league, the team that was in relegation battle for much of the season fought its way to ninth place in the final ranking.

In the 2017/18 season , Hladký started again as the second goalkeeper under his coach Jindřich Trpišovský; this time he initially had to give way to Ondřej Kolář, who was around four years his junior . From the middle to the end of September 2017, Hladký played three consecutive league appearances before he had to give way to his younger teammate again until the winter break. It was only through David Holoubek , who replaced Trpišovský as coach during the winter break, that the Brno-born man made the leap into the regular line-up of Slovan Liberec. Under Holoubek he played twelve championship games, with five defeats, four draws and three wins on a largely balanced record. In the last two games of the season, Hladký had to swap his regular place with his Czech-Vietnamese goalkeeper colleague Filip Nguyen , who thus got some match practice. In the final ranking, Slovan Liberec, despite a longer time in the first four places in the table, only made it to sixth place in the table and thus again not to an international starting position. Unlike in the previous two seasons, Hladký only played one game in the 2017/18 Czech Cup and was eliminated with his team in the quarter-finals again.

Released as a short-term goalkeeper and moved to Scotland

Even after Holoubek's departure as head coach and Zsolt Hornyák's commitment in the summer break before the 2018/19 season , Hladký retained his position as first goalkeeper. After nine championship appearances this season, however, he was ranked behind Filip Nguyen, who had stood out for his good performance in the 2018/19 Czech Football Cup and was henceforth unused on the bench. After he had not been included in any of his team's competitive games until the winter break, he moved to the Scottish Premiership at FC St. Mirren in January 2019 . With the Scots, he signed a contract with a term of 18 months until summer 2020. In the Scottish Premiership 2018/19 he was the eighth goalkeeper of FC St. Mirren who was in a competitive game in the professional team. After a month-long winter break in Scottish football, the Czech started on January 23 as the club's goalkeeper from the Scottish Lowlands . He made his debut in a 4-0 away defeat against Glasgow Rangers , as a result of which the team slipped to the bottom of the table and stayed for a few days on this. Hladký brought it to a total of 47 championship games for St. Mirren. A contract extension with the "Saints" he refused, whereupon he left the club in June 2020. At this point, Hladký had aroused interest from the Glasgow Rangers and Fortuna Düsseldorf .

In August 2020, Hladký moved to the English fourth division club Salford City, with whom he signed a two-year contract.

National team career

Václav Hladký gained his first experience in a national team of the Czech Football Association in the Czech U-16 team , for which he made his debut in 2005. After a 1-0 defeat in a friendly against his colleagues from Belgium on September 20, 2005, it took another four months before he made regular appearances in the U-16 national team. At the end of January and the beginning of February 2006 taking place Aegean Cup , a U-16 youth tournament, Hladký was used as the goalkeeper in all four international matches in his home country. In March and April 2006, he also played three more international friendly matches. Not even four months later, the young goalkeeper made his debut in the Czech U-17 team , for which he first guarded the goal on August 11, 2006 in a clear 4-0 defeat against Japan . A little over a month later he was used in the last group game of the basic round of qualifying for the U-17 European Championship 2007 against Turkey (1: 3) from the tenth minute of the game as a replacement for the ailing Marek Štěch . After appearances in four friendly international matches in December 2006, as well as February and March 2007, he also completed a group game in the elite round, for which one had previously successfully qualified via the regular season. The 3-0 win over the neighbors from Slovakia was also Hladký's last international match in the U-17 national team, which did not make it to the European Championship finals in Belgium .

In August 2007 he made his debut for the Czech U-18 juniors at the Václav Ježek memorial tournament . In the course of the tournament he was used in the games against Poland and Ukraine and was victorious in both games. In October and November 2007, friendly matches against Belarus and the Netherlands followed , before the young goalkeeper was quiet for a few months. On April 1, 2008, he then completed his next international match when he ran up under coach Milan Bokša in the friendly game against Belgium . At the end of this month and at the beginning of the following month, he also made tournaments under the experienced trainer. In 2008 and 2009 Hladký completed seven international matches for the Czech U-19 juniors , for which he was called up a total of nine times during this period. He made his debut on September 4, 2008 under coach Aleš Křeček in a friendly against Germany . At the end of November 2008, he represented his home country in the basic round of qualifying for the U-19 European Football Championship in 2009 and was used in all three group matches. After various tournaments in the spring of 2009, he was also used in the elite round of qualifying for the U-19 European Championship; this time not as a regular goalkeeper. In the elite round, the Czechs failed again to qualify for a European Championship finals. Almost two years after his last international match, Hladký made his debut for the Czech U-20 team when he replaced Milan Heča for the second half in a 2-1 win over his colleagues from Slovakia under coach Jakub Dovalil on April 27, 2011 completed. For both goalkeepers it was the only U-20 international appearance in their careers.
