Vasile Darnea

Vasile Dárnea (* 1975 in Turnu Măgurele ) is a Romanian violinist . He was discovered in Germany as a talented street musician and only then received professional training. Darnea played music in many different formations - including in an ARD - Radio Orchestra - and was already employed at several German theaters as a member of the orchestra.

Artistic career

Beginnings and training

In his home country, Dárnea received a rudimentary early musical education from his father - an autodidactic violinist - from the age of five . In essence, however, he also taught himself to play the violin on his own. As a schoolboy he received several awards. In his youth he allowed smugglers to bring him to Germany . He then earned his living there as a street musician in various places. In 1993, in the Lower Saxon district town of Verden , his talent was finally noticed by music lovers who referred Dárnea to Maria Grevesmühl . She taught as a well-known violin teacher at the Bremen University of the Arts .

An artistically fruitful teacher-student relationship quickly developed between Dárnea and Grevesmühl . Since he was still too young to matriculate at the university , he was initially admitted as a visiting student on her initiative . At times she also gave him free private lessons. She organized a better instrument for Dárnea and accepted him into the college's chamber orchestra, which she founded. After his 18th birthday, he was able to enroll regularly in Grevesmühl's soloist class. Soon he was given the opportunity to make music as a temporary worker in the NDR Radiophilharmonie . He also won first prize in the regional ranking (Lower Saxony / Bremen district) of the Lions Club Music Prize. Most recently, however, fellow students noticed “a fine rivalry” and a “secret power struggle” between Dárnea and Grevesmühl at the university's internal rehearsals. The student no longer always accepted suggestions for improvement without contradiction and at times indicated that "he may be the superior musician".

After Maria Grevesmühl was violently killed at the end of October 1996 while stealing her precious Stradivarius violin, a main culprit of Romanian origin was arrested. In the course of the police investigation also Darnea was suspected of accomplice - or complicity and sat 13 weeks in remand . In May 1998 he was acquitted by Criminal Chamber II of the Bremen Regional Court against the application of the public prosecutor's office , which had demanded a three-year prison sentence . An appeal by the public prosecutor's office was rejected in November 1998.

Dárnea continued his studies in Thomas Klug's soloist class as well as in chamber music classes with Alexander Baillie , among others , and played in 2001 in the Chamber Symphony of the Diepholz district . In 2003 he passed the artistic maturity examination with distinction. Further studies with Walter Forchert, Katrin Scholz , Ulf Schneider and Martin Dehning followed. In addition, he also took part in international master classes given by Christian Tetzlaff and Yfrah Neamann.

Further career

After completing his training, Dárnea began a varied solo and chamber music activity at home and abroad. In 2004 he found his first permanent job at the Berlin Theater des Westens . At times he was part of the Ensemble Phoenix ( Eckernförde ), the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen , the Ensemble con Arpa ( Delmenhorst ), the Tal Consort-Ensemble and the VaRoCo-Balcanic- Trio ( Paris ). He also played first violin in both the cypress Quartet ( Bremen ) and in the tango - quartet Alpachiru and served as concertmaster in the Classical Philharmonic NorthWest busy and the Bremen Opera Piccola.

For CD recordings he worked with Jasper van't Hof , Valentine and Stage Entertainment , among others . Between 2010 and 2014 he was a permanent member of the orchestra at the Hagen Theater and between November 2015 and September 2016 he was concertmaster at the Metronom Theater in Oberhausen for the performance of the musical Das Phantom der Oper . In addition, he has been playing in the RoVaMe trio since 2001, which he founded with two college students.

He is married to the Russian soprano and choir director Diana Petrova Dárnea, with whom he directs the DiVas quintet , which is also dedicated to tango. The couple lives in Gelsenkirchen, where Dárnea also offers music lessons. He also works as a violin teacher at the music schools in Dinslaken and Duisburg .

Play style

Even during his time as a street musician, Dárnea had a high level of musical virtuosity and the ability to "intuitively, effortlessly grasp music". At later appearances, critics particularly praised his "sensitive" playing, his "light-heartedness" and his "delicate silver tone".

It was emphasized, for example, that even with "inspiring high-altitude brilliance" he knows how to maintain the "almost violet -like warmth of his sound, whose blooming fullness remains audible even in the fastest runs and driest arpeggios ". In addition, he moves with "technical perfection" and "mature musical expression" "masterfully in intonation and sound design".
