Veli Kavlak (born November 3, 1988 in Vienna ) is a Turkish-born Austrian football player .
Career
societies
Kavlak began his career in 1995 in the youth of Post SV Wien , for which he was active for exactly two days. After a training session and a championship game against FK Austria Wien , he was picked up by SK Rapid Wien , where he went through all youth teams in a row.
2004, the trained came forward from the club's amateurs in the squad of the first team and celebrated on 22 May 2005 at the Game against SV Wüstenrot Salzburg with only 16 years, six months and 19 days its debut in the Austrian Bundesliga . This makes him one of the youngest football players ever to play in the Bundesliga, ahead of the former rapid player Andreas Ivanschitz .
In the 2005/06 season he came to fourteen appearances in the championship, two in the ÖFB Cup and one appearance in the UEFA Champions League . In July 2006 he played his way to the semi-finals of the U-19 European Junior Championship with the Austrian U-19 national team, but clearly failed with his team 5-0 against eventual European champions Spain. He is also one of Ümit Korkmaz's best friends . In the championship season of SK Rapid Wien 2007/08 , the Turkish-born Austrian was one of the top performers of the green-white and played a major role in the success.
After his shoulder surgery , which he had carried out while the 2008 European Championship was being played in Austria , reports leaked out of a possible offer from the Turkish top club Beşiktaş Istanbul . Nothing came of this transfer, and so he also played for Rapid Vienna in the 2008/09 season .
On May 27, 2011, Beşiktaş Istanbul announced the commitment of Veli Kavlak after the Turkish club had already been interested in the Vienna in 2009. His transfer fee was 750,000 euros.
On August 8, 2018, it became known that his contract was terminated by the club after a series of injuries.
National team
In October 2006, the only 17-year-old was called up by Josef Hickersberger for the international matches against Liechtenstein and Switzerland in the Austrian national team , but has not yet played in the games. He made his debut in Austria's 1-1 draw against Ghana on March 24, 2007 when he came on for striker Roland Linz in the 71st minute .
In July 2007 he took part in the U20 World Cup in Canada , where he reached 4th place with the Austrian selection. After this success he was courted by Hertha BSC in the summer 2007 and winter 2007 transfer period .
On August 15, 2012 Kavlak scored the 1-0 for Austria (final score 2-0) in the test against Turkey , which remains his only international goal. He played his last match in the national team on November 18, 2014 in the friendly against Brazil , which Austria lost 2-1.
Controversy
On Twitter, Kavlak welcomed Turkey's military offensive against the Kurdish militia YPG in northern Syria, which began on October 9, 2019: "It began. May Allah be with us and make our army victorious. The Turkish nation is with you." The posting was hotly debated in football forums and deleted a little later.
