The Vergennes Township is one of 16 townships in Jackson County in the southwest of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2010 the Vergennes Township had 771 inhabitants.

The Vergennes Township is about 35 kilometers east of the Mississippi , which forms the border with Missouri . The mouth of the Ohio at the intersection of the states of Illinois, Missouri and Kentucky is about 115 km south.

The Vergennes Township is located at 37 ° 54 '  N , 89 ° 19'  W and extends over 96.7 km², which is spread over 95.8 km² of land and 0.9 km² of water.

The township is located in the north of Jackson County and borders north on Perry County . Within Jackson County, Vergennes Township is bordered by Elk Township in the east, De Soto Township in the southeast, Somerset Township in the south, Levan Township in the southwest and Ora Township in the west .

Illinois State Routes 13 and 127 run through the township in a north-south direction on a shared stretch of route . The southern border of Vergennes Township is formed by Illinois State Route 4 . All other roads are county roads or further subordinate and partly unpaved roads.

The Southern Illinois Airport is located around 25 km south of the Vergennes Township, a regional airport. The nearest major airport is Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport (around 150 km northwest).
