The Sand Ridge Township is less than a kilometer east of the Mississippi , which forms the border with Missouri . The mouth of the Ohio at the intersection of the states of Illinois, Missouri and Kentucky is about 100 km south.
The Sand Ridge Township is located at 37 ° 44 ' N , 89 ° 26' W and extends over 94.23 km², which is spread over 92.32 km² of land and 1.91 km² of water. The township is traversed by the Big Muddy River , a left tributary of the Mississippi.
The Sand Ridge Township is located in the southwestern center of Jackson County and borders in the north on the Levan Township , in the northeast on the Somerset Township , in the east on the Murphysboro Township , in the southeast on the Pomona Township , in the south and southwest on the Grand Tower Township , to the west to the Fountain Bluff Township and to the northwest to the Kinkaid Township .
