The Grand Tower Township is located at the confluence of the Big Muddy River with the Mississippi , which forms the border with Missouri . The mouth of the Ohio at the intersection of the states of Illinois, Missouri and Kentucky is about 100 km south.
The Grand Tower Township is located at 37 ° 38 ' N , 89 ° 28' W and extends over 86.48 km², which is spread over 81.72 km² of land and 4.764 km² of water. The township is bounded in the east by the Big Muddy River to its mouth.
The Grand Tower Township is located in the extreme southwest of Jackson County and is bordered to the west by the Mississippi on Perry County in Missouri and to the south and southeast on Union County . Within Jackson County, the Grand Tower Township borders Fountain Bluff Township in the northwest , Sand Ridge Township in the north and Pomona Township in the east .
