Administrative division of Liechtenstein
The Principality of Liechtenstein is divided into two constituencies and eleven municipalities . Five municipalities belong to the constituency Unterland (historical rule Schellenberg ), the remaining six municipalities belong to the constituency Oberland (historical county Vaduz ). Schellenberg and Vaduz were formerly imperial lords (the Schellenberg lordship was acquired by the princes of Liechtenstein in 1699, and the county of Vaduz in 1712), and administrative districts in the 1930s. Today there are constituencies without an administrative function.

Ex- and enclaves
Despite their small size, the municipalities of Liechtenstein show complex shapes in terms of their territorial extent. In addition to a main part, seven municipalities also comprise one or more exclaves , as the municipality map shows. These are often the mountain areas of the Rhätikon in the east of the country. Only four of the total of 19 exclaves are enclaves at the same time , as they are completely surrounded by the area of just one municipality.
