Vinschgau (district community)
The district community Vinschgau ( Italian Comunità comprensoriale Val Venosta ) was founded in 1962. The district community includes the largest part of the Vinschgau in South Tyrol as well as several side valleys. The 13 affiliated municipalities extend over an area of 1,442 km² with around 35,000 inhabitants (as of 2014). The main town is Schlanders .
In the census in December 2013, around 97.2% of the residents of the district community said German as the colloquial language, around 2.6% Italian, and only around 0.09% Ladin. This makes the Vinschgau the district community with the largest percentage of German-speaking residents.
The municipalities of the Vinschgau district community are: Glurns , Graun , Kastelbell-Tschars , Laas , Latsch , Mals , Martell , Prad , Schlanders , Schluderns , Schnals , Stilfs and Taufers .
The communities of Naturno , Plaus and Partschins are located in the Vinschgau Valley, but due to their proximity to Merano they are part of the Burggrafenamt district community .
