Volkenrath is a south-eastern district of Eschweiler on the eastern side of the country road between Eschweiler and the Eifel: Südstraße - Eifelstraße - Quellstraße . The Omerbach flows east of Volkenrath .

It was probably founded around 830 together with Eschweiler- Bergrath and Eschweiler- Hastenrath by the Cologne church. Presumably, the three Rodeorte are related to the last campaigns of Charlemagne against the Saxons (795-804). The clergy in Cologne chose the name Volkenrode after the ancient Roman god Vulcanus, who presumably had his place of sacrifice and worship on the hill of the Knippmühle, for the clearing section, which began at the Knippmühle and comprised the area of today's Bohl-Volkenrath .

The forest near Volkenrath, Im Kakus (later falsified to Im Korkus ), where iron ore and later limestone were mined in pre-Roman times , was probably dedicated to the ancient Roman god Cacus, son of Vulcanus.

In public transport , the "Volkenrath" stop is served by the EW1 and EW3 city buses, which connect Volkenrath with Eschweiler Bushof , Bergrath, Hastenrath, Scherpenseel, Werth and Gressenich.
