history

Logo of the former Bankverein Werther AG (until 2011)

The history of the original bank association in Werther began in 1877 as an advance payment association to Werther in the legal form of a cooperative. In 1891 the cooperative was converted into a stock corporation and the company changed to Bankverein Werther Aktiengesellschaft . Bankverein Werther AG existed in this form until 2011.

In September 2011, the then Bankverein Werther AG announced the sale of the parent company (private and business customers in Werther and Bielefeld) including the Bankverein Werther brand and the bank property in Werther to the then Volksbank Paderborn-Höxter-Detmold eG on December 1, 2011. The former Bankverein Werther AG operates today under the name net-m privatbank 1891 AG .

Since then, Volksbank Paderborn-Höxter-Detmold eG has been running the parent company in Werther and Bielefeld under the brand name Bankverein Werther as a branch. The Bankverein Werther Immobilien GmbH , a subsidiary of the former Bankverein Werther AG for the real estate trade, has also been sold to the former Volksbank Paderborn-Hoxter-Detmold eG and continued by this unchanged among first company name.

A new logo was introduced in mid-2012 and the business premises in Werther were fundamentally rebuilt and modernized. In October 2012, the Bielefeld branch was relocated from Jöllenbecker Strasse to more representative premises at 12 Alter Markt .

Because of the integration of the Werther bank association, Volksbank was in dispute with Bielefelder Volksbank eG and Volksbank Halle / Westf. eG, which are all organized together in the Rheinisch-Westfälischer Genossenschaftsverband. The latter understand the integration of the bank association into the Volksbank as a violation of a regionally anchored non-competition clause of the cooperative banks organized in the association.

In November 2013, the headquarters of the subsidiary Bankverein Werther Immobilien GmbH was relocated from Werther to Paderborn and the company name was changed to OWL Immobilien Objektgesellschaft mbH . Since the beginning of May 2014, the real estate business of the bank association has been operated by BV Werther Immobilien GmbH , based in Bielefeld, Alter Markt 10.
