On December 31, 1990, Waltenrieth had 7 residents and belonged to the Etzgersrieth Expositur and the parish of Böhmischbruck. Today (2013) Waltenrieth and the Etzgersrieth branch belong to the Moosbach parish in the Leuchtenberg dean's office .
Waltenrieth formed a community with Tröbes from 1821 to 1930.
