Walther (Eichstätt)
Walther († December 20, 1021 near Ravenna ) was Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt from 1020 to 1021.
Life
Walther (his signature with "Vualtheri Heihsteidensis episcopus" is preserved on a single document) came from a ministerial family , so was of unfree origin. He was used by Emperor Heinrich II . At the National Synod of Bamberg in 1020, he indirectly recognized the special position of the diocese of Bamberg under canon law . The diocese of Bamberg was founded by Heinrich II in 1007 in order to consolidate his influence in the region on church-political paths. Walther accompanied Henry II on his Italian expedition in 1021 and died on the way near Ravenna; He was also buried in Ravenna - like Gebhard I , who succeeded him as the third to the Eichstätter bishopric.
