Uodalfrid († January 1, 933 ) was Chancellor of the East Franconian Empire and from 912 bishop of the diocese of Eichstätt .

Uodalfrid came from a noble free sex, which in Westbayern was well off: he had not inconsiderable personal property in Sinzing on the Danube confluence of Laaber , which he largely the Eichstätter church, a (no longer identifiable) Eichstätter Hospital (received in an undated, probably late deed this the Sinziger Schiffszoll ), the Heidenheim , Herrieden and Ilmmünster foundations and the Church of Freising .

For the first time Uodalfrid 908 can be proven as chancellor and notary of King Ludwig the child . His successor, King Konrad I , also took it over - proof of the high level of trust he enjoyed at the royal court. Together with the Mainz Bishop Hatto he was intended to lead the court chancellery; but the king changed his plan and made him the successor of the Eichstätter bishop Erchanbald . The last time he was to be proved as Chancellor was on 23 August 912.

During Uodalfrid's reign in Eichstätt, the West Franconian ruler Charles the Simple received 916 relics of St. Walburga for his Walburga church in the royal palace of Attigny . As a result, the saint rose to become the patron saint of the Franconian Empire against the Normans .

In the dispute between King Konrad I and the Bavarian Duke Arnulf the Evil , who sought extensive independence from the empire as part of his royal plans, Uodalfrid stood on the side of the king. At the Synod of Hohenaltheim im Ries in 916 the clergy also gave decisive support to the king, who after unsuccessful negotiations in 918 tried to force himself against Arnulf, but died on December 23, 918 of his injuries. Previously, on September 29, 918, Konrad I had confirmed the market, coin, customs and fortification rights for the Eichstätter area, which his predecessor had granted to Bishop Erchanbald. With the same document he again granted Bishop Uodalfrid hunting and forest rights between Altmühl and Schutter .

When Konrad's successor, King Heinrich I , changed the political course and from 921 onwards Arnulf granted a position similar to that of a king, including sovereignty over ecclesiastical matters, Uodalfrid had to work towards reconciliation with the Bavarian Duke , since the eastern part of his diocese was in the northern Bavarian region . In January 932 he took part in the Bavarian Synod in Regensburg. In July 932 he sent envoys to the Synod in Dingolfing because he was unable to attend for health reasons. He died on January 1st, 933. In the Pontifical Gundekarianum it is wrongly noted that he held the episcopal see in Eichstätt for 31 years ("XXXI"). He is shown there on sheet 17 in a miniature painting.
