Quarter
The term Werd goes back to the old German word warid, werid or the Middle High German word worth and means island, peninsula, river island or lowland between rivers and lakes. With reference to the Werd quarter, it describes the area between the Sihl and Wiediker Dorfbach - or possibly a former arm of the Sihl.
The most striking building in the quarter is the Werd high-rise , which is now used by the Zurich city administration.
