Werder were first mentioned in writing in 1369 with the brothers Albrecht, Henning and Fritz von dem Werder and their cousins ​​Busso and Konrad von dem Werder. The family owned the Rogäsen manor in the west of today's state of Brandenburg for over 500 years .

On April 15, 1879, the family received the Prussian count status in the first-born line ( Primogenitur ).

A family association has existed since 1920 .
