Ferdinand Wilhelm Wiko von Werder (born June 14, 1785 in Magdeburg , † June 15, 1861 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Ferdinand was the son of the Prussian major general Friedrich Wilhelm von Werder (1747-1820) and his second wife Marianne Elisabeth, née Barth (1777-1865). His brother Friedrich Wilhelm Ferdinand (1786-1854) was also a Prussian lieutenant general.

Military career

Werder entered on November 16, 1797 as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Kunheim" of the Prussian army . He was sworn in on June 1, 1798 and was promoted to second lieutenant until August 1, 1803 . As such, he took part in the Fourth Coalition War, fought near Lübeck and after the surrender at Ratekau was taken prisoner.

After the peace of Tilsit Werder was aggregated on May 20, 1810 with half pay with the regiment of the guard on foot . By mid-April 1812 he was promoted to staff captain and in the run-up to the wars of liberation on July 3, 1813, he was appointed commander of the 2nd volunteer hunter company of the 1st Guard Regiment. There he was promoted to captain on August 11, 1813 and joined the Guard Jäger Battalion as a company commander on December 29 . During the war he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen and Kulm . In Leipzig he acquired the Iron Cross II. Class and in Paris the Order of Saint Anna II. Class.

On March 5, 1816 he was promoted to major and at the same time appointed commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 2nd Guards Landwehr Regiment. Ten days later he was transferred to the 12th Infantry Regiment . There he was appointed commander of the fusilier battalion on January 19, 1818. On March 30, 1830, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on March 30, 1832, he was commissioned to lead the Leib-Infantry Regiment and on September 24, 1832, he was appointed commander. On March 30, 1833 Werder became a colonel and on January 18, 1834 with the Order of St. John and on September 10, 1837 with the Order of the Red Eagle III. Excellent with a bow. On March 30, 1839, Werder received command of the 5th Infantry Brigade in Frankfurt (Oder) and on April 7, 1839 was aggregated into the Leib Infantry Regiment. On March 30, 1840 he was promoted to major general and on April 7, 1842 , he was transferred to Stettin as commander of the 3rd Infantry Brigade . Due to health reasons, he submitted his departure , which Werder was granted on August 9, 1842 with the statutory pension . After his departure, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV gave him the character of Lieutenant General on October 1, 1846 .

Werder died unmarried on June 15, 1861 in Berlin and was buried on June 18, 1861 in the Invalidenfriedhof .

His division commander Georg von Hessen wrote in his assessment in 1838: “His moral behavior, very noble, decent demeanor, has a lot of love among his subordinates, has a good effect on the officer corps. If the regiment is in a commendable condition, is recommended as a brigade commander in the line. "
