West Bend is a city (with the status of the city ) and county seat of Washington County in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 West Bend had 31,078 residents.

West Bend lies on both sides of the Milwaukee River at latitude 43 ° 25'17 "north and longitude 88 ° 10'58" west. The city extends over 33.02 km², which is spread over 32.51 km² of land and 0.51 km² of water.
The four-lane US Highway 45 runs west of the city center in a north-south direction . In the center of town, Wisconsin Highways 33 and 144 and a number of secondary streets meet.
West Bend is also a line of the Union Pacific Railroad running northwest from Milwaukee .

history
Before the arrival of white settlers lived in what is now the city as in the entire southeastern Wisconsin Indians of the tribes Potawatomi and Menominee .
In 1845, the Wisconsin Territory Parliament approved the construction of a road from Milwaukee to Fond du Lac. Those responsible for the construction of the road were looking for a suitable location for a resting place for the travelers halfway along and found it at the site of today's city of West Bend. With increasing traffic, the use of the rest area increased, around which a settlement gradually developed. The name of the place alludes to the western headwaters of the Milwaukee River (English: West Bend ), which is crossed at this point. The river was also used to generate energy for mills and sawmills. In 1873 the railway came to West Bend, which brought more settlers, especially from Germany. Village of Barton

West Bend Mutual Insurance Company , which still exists today, was founded in West Bend in 1894.
