William Charles "Bill" Allen (born December 20, 1947 in Minneapolis ) is a former American sailor .

William Allen took part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , the sailing regattas of which were held in the Schilksee Olympic Center in Kiel , alongside William Bentsen as a crew member on the US boat of the Soling class from skipper Harry Melges . They won three of the six races and finished the other two races included in the ranking in positions two and three, finishing the regatta with 8.7 points by a clear margin as Olympic champions. The second-placed Swedes around Stig Wennerström got 31.7 points. In 1970 Allen won the US championship in the boat class E-Scow and two years later in the Finn dinghy .
