William C. Davis (politician)

William Columbus Davis (born August 5, 1867 in Iuka , Mississippi , † October 4, 1934 ) was an American politician from 1927 to 1931 Lieutenant Governor of Alabama . He was a member of the Democratic Party .

William Columbus Davis was born in 1867 in Iuka, Mississippi, to Samuel McGee and Sarah Davis (nee Laycey). After graduating from high school, he studied law with Judge Harvey Murphy in Aberdeen . There he was accepted into the legal profession. He also taught at Mississippi's public schools until he settled in Hamilton in 1890 to practice as a lawyer himself. A year later he was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives, to which he served for eight years. After his tenure ended, he moved to Jasper in 1899 . In 1915 he moved again to the House of Representatives, but this time he did not represent Marion County , but Walker County . From 1907 to 1911 Davis was an attorney at the 14th District Court ( Judicial Circuit ).

Davis crowned his political career in the late 1920s when he became Lieutenant Governor of Alabama in 1927. He held this office for one legislative period until 1931.

On July 24, 1895, he married Maud Elizabeth, with whom he had two children, William Columbus, Jr. and Elizabeth.
