Architecture and city history
In 1859, on October 16, the first school was opened in the municipality of Windberg. Parts of the Anna School buildings are still in use today. The Church of St. Anna , built in 1909 in Windberg by the Aachen architect Josef Schmitz, is an example of “style architecture”. Ernst Jansen-Winkeln painted his first large mural of the larger than life enthroned Christ for this church in 1933 . Jakob Hubert Eschweiler was chaplain of the parish from 1918 to 1922 . After the British soldiers finally moved out of their Mönchengladbach headquarters in 2013, the characteristic white houses they had previously lived in became vacant, especially near the colorful garden on Danziger and Königsberger Strasse. With the departure of the British, the so-called “English Quarter” in Windberg also disappeared and with it a piece of decades of history. Two apartment buildings were built on the English soccer field.
Events
An independent rifle festival takes place in Windberg every year. The festival was organized by the St. Brigitta Brotherhood until 1956 , and since then by the Mönchengladbach Windberg-Großheide citizens' shooting association founded in 1956 .

The former soccer player Oliver Neuville lived in the border area of Großheide .
