history

The Evangelical Church in Stockum

The first recorded mention of Stockum dates back to the year 882. In the Werdener Urbar a place called villa stochem is mentioned, in which taxable free farmers from the Brukterergau have settled.

The individual Stockumer Höfe were subject to various landlords . Stockum and the neighboring Düren have always been viewed as closely related over the centuries. From 1850 to 1929 they belonged to the Langendreer office , as part of a community reform Stockum and Düren became districts of Witten on August 1, 1929. Ecclesiastically , Stockum-Düren has belonged to the parish of Lütgendortmund since the turn of the millennium and only became an independent parish in 1906, although it had its own cemetery since 1855 and the Protestant church was inaugurated in 1902 .

Population development

As of December 31, 2014 Stockum has 6146 inhabitants.

forecast

The Committee for Economic Development until 2020 a massive drop in population figures in Witten. In addition to Rüdinghausen , for which the business development agencies expect a decline of 9.6 percent, in their opinion Stockum will be hardest hit by this population decline. A 9.55 percent decline is forecast. The economic development agencies justify their forecast, among other things, with the fact that there is a lack of suitable apartments in Stockum .

This prognosis is not without controversy, as Stockum is still attractive as a residential area due to its immediate neighborhood in the Dortmund city area and with few social problems.

traffic

In Stockum today there is neither a railway station nor a connection to the tram network of Bogestra . Two bus routes connect Stockum with downtown Witten and Oespel (bus route 371 from VER ) and with Annen (bus route 373 from VER). The local S-Bahn stations Witten-Annen Nord and Dortmund-Oespel can be reached in about 10 minutes by bus. Furthermore, on the nights from Friday to Saturday, from Saturday to Sunday and before public holidays, there is NachtExpress 18, which connects Stockum ( Gerdesstraße stop ) every hour with Bochum and Witten.

Stockum is connected to the trunk road network by the federal highways 44 and 45 . Although the Dortmund-Eichlinghofen / Witten-Stockum driveway is already in Dortmund's urban area, it is only a few hundred meters away from the Witten city limits.
