Wolfgang Reuter (* 1935 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German local politician ( SPD ). From October 10, 1986 to January 20, 1994, he was Lord Mayor of the Hessian city of Offenbach am Main.

Live and act

Wolfgang Reuter was born in Offenbach in 1935. After the Second World War he became an active member of the Falcons . In 1950 he broke off attending the Rudolf Koch School to start a commercial apprenticeship. In 1952 he became a representative of his association in the city youth ring and in 1958 also in the youth welfare committee , in 1956 youth secretary at the Falken in Frankfurt am Main . In the same year he joined the SPD. From 1961 to 1970 he was first party secretary, then education officer in the SPD district of Hesse-South . In the mid-1960s he also headed the district's monthly magazine - Der Sozialdemokrat - which was founded in 1965 on the basis of the newspaper of the same name that appeared from 1879 to 1890 . From 1970 he was the managing director of the SPD in southern Hesse and was jointly responsible for Willy Brandt's election campaign in Hesse.

In 1976 he switched to Offenbach local politics and became a full-time city councilor under the then mayor Walter Buckpesch , responsible for social affairs and health. Elected mayor in 1986, he temporarily managed the mayor's department. From 1988 to 1994 he was elected Lord Mayor of the city. During his term of office the establishment of new town twinning agreements with Orjol and Rivas fall . Since the mid-1990s he has headed the Historical Commission of the Offenbacher SPD, which publishes books and writings on the history of the city and party with the “Rote Reihe” of the Offenbacher Editions publishing house.
