Y ( waɪ ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Matanuska-Susitna Borough in Alaska in the United States . The village is between Willow and Talkeetna on the George Parks Highway . Y includes the Montana Creek and Sunshine settlements . At Sunshine , the Highway and Talkeetna Spur Road form a Y-shaped intersection.

history

Athabasques from the Ahtna group lived in the Talkeetna Mountains and had a village at the mouth of Sunshine Creek , the name of which means Tsuk Qayeh, which means "old village". Dena'ina -Athabasques lived in winter not far from today's Talkeetna on the Deshka River and on the middle reaches of the Susitna River . There was a settlement on the Kashwitna River . In 1915, during the construction work on the Alaska Railroad , Montana Creek became a small Dena'ina village. The railroad and the highway completed in 1971 promoted settlement in the region.
