The Yorck area is an eastern part of Chemnitz . Over 9,000 people currently live in this area. It was from 1970 to 1974 as a residential area " Yorckstraße " on Gablenz corridor between the near Zeisigwald situated settlement on Drosselweg which Eubaer , Augustusburger and Yorckstraße built.
Residential area
Many five- and nine-storey prefabricated buildings , but also gardens and green spaces as well as single-family houses characterize this quiet district. In contrast to many other districts dominated by prefabricated buildings, the vacancy rate in the Yorck area is relatively low. The same applies to the crime rate.
The adjacent Zeisigwald offers Chemnitz residents many opportunities for recreation and sporting activities (hiking, jogging, mountain biking, Nordic walking and the like). The two main streets, Yorckstraße and Fürstenstraße, form the main traffic routes in this quarter. The USG Chemnitz sports club is based here. The New-Yorck-Center and the Yorckarcaden are the two shopping centers in this district.
Part of the Yorck area is colloquially called the Yorck massif in Chemnitz . There are still many lined up - partly unrenovated - prefabricated buildings .
Local transport
The Yorck area is very well connected to the Chemnitz local transport network. It can be reached by bus and train lines 5, 31, 51, E51 and N12 of the night network.
health
In the “Yorckgebiet” district there are health and care facilities, such as B. the Zeisigwaldkliniken Bethanien Chemnitz .
Educational institutions
There are several schools in the Yorck area . Among other things, the A.-S.-Makarenko primary school and the Montessori school . A few meters (about 5 minutes walk) from the Yorck area in the neighboring Sonnenberg district is the Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium .
