The Zündapp K 800 was a motorcycle model from the Zündapp works in Nuremberg with a four-cylinder, four-stroke boxer engine.

Model history

The K 800 appeared in 1933 and was produced until 1938; In addition to the approximately 2600 machines for various uses, 4962 machines were manufactured for the army. Of the smaller model, the K 600 (15 hp, 100 km / h), which is identical except for the displacement, only 26 units with the chassis numbers 139001 to 139026 were produced in 1933 and 1934. In the first two years of construction, the K 800 engines had 20 hp; then 22 hp. The Zündapp KS 601 (Green Elephant) can be seen as the successor model. All models of the K series (K = cardan drive) and the KS series (KS = cardan sport) were made with pressed steel frames . K 400, K 500, K 600, KS 500, KS 600 and K 800 had this so-called K-frame. The KK frames (small box frames) were used in models from K 200 to KKS 500. Only for the KS 750 frames were made of profile steel tubes (oval tubes) in order to meet the requirements of the Wehrmacht.

Technical details

The machine had a four-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine with a British Amal carburetor , a 6- volt ignition light system, a single-disc dry clutch , a four-speed gearbox and a cardan drive . A feature of the K 800 as well as other large models from Zündapp is the 4-speed chain transmission designed by Richard Küchen . It was switched by hand on the right with a long lever (ball switch). The ignition could be adjusted manually. The front wheel hung on a trapezoidal fork with two compression springs and friction shock absorbers . At the rear the frame was rigid. Apart from the fork, only the saddle was sprung. The tank held 15 liters, which enabled a range of over 200 kilometers with a consumption of around 6.5 liters per 100 kilometers. The tires were 3.50 or 4.00 × 19 inches.
