The Zündapp S 500 and Zündapp SS 500 were motorcycle models from the German manufacturer Zündapp .
Model history
Despite the poor economic situation - the effects of the global economic crisis were still noticeable everywhere - Zündapp brought out his first four-stroke model in 1930. The S 500 and its sporty version SS 500 received a Python built-in motor from Rudge Whitworth from England. The engine was available in two power variants. Upon request, the machine was delivered with a chrome-plated tank. Like the S 200/300 models, the S 500 / SS 500 was available with a combined hand / foot brake. The machine was the first to have quick-release axles and a folding rear fender for faster wheel changes. 38 machines were built in the first year of production, and 963 in the following year.
Technical details
The wind-cooled single-cylinder engine had four valves that were actuated by the camshaft below via tappets , push rods running in chrome-plated protective tubes and forked rocker arms . The lubrication was ensured with a circulation double piston pump with filter. The machine had a multi-plate dry clutch . The mixture was prepared by a British Amal carburetor with two slides. The electric ignition light system worked with 6 volts , the ignition timing was adjustable. The rigid frame was bolted from profile steel. The motorcycle had a trapezoidal fork with a friction damper and a saddle with two springs. The tank held 15 l, which enabled a range of 300 km with a consumption of 5 l (SS: 5.5 l). The tires were 27 × 4.
