history
Savar was first mentioned in mid-1445, making it the youngest settlement on Dugi Otok. A wealthy citizen of Zadar, Grgur Mrganić, gave the Franciscans "an estate on Dugi otok in Zaglav" with the Church of St. Michael, which was consecrated on August 9, 1458. The monastery church is 10.50 m long and 5.08 m wide. It has a shrine (3 × 3 m) which, like the nave, is translated by a Gothic vault. The facade has a Gothic window and a bell tower. On the main altar there is an old painting by Mihovila, oil on canvas, which has been replaced by a fairly faithful copy. There are also altars of Our Lady and St. Ante with matching paintings and three wooden statues. The church keeps valuable liturgical objects made of silver such as the processional cross and the chalice. The valuable wooden crucifix from the 16th century is temporarily kept in the St. Michael Church in Zadar. The monastery church is now also a local parish church.
As with all localities on Dugi Otok, Zaglav suffered from enormous migration overseas after World War II.
