history

Žman had the first written mention in 1260 as Mecano, which means the middle village. In the 16th century, Mecano was adopted into Croatian. However, prehistoric and Roman graves testify to an earlier settlement.

The parish church, consecrated to St. John the Baptist, was built by the Benedictines in 1626 with the reconstruction and expansion of the medieval church. It has two corridors, a rarity among churches in small settlements. The church today has five altars. The main altar adorned with four marble columns is dedicated to St. Dedicated to John the Baptist . Two statues show John and St. Josef in Tyrolean plants. The altarpiece was painted by Antonio Zuccaro from Trieste. The side altars are also decorated with marble columns dedicated to the Healing Virgin, Saint Joseph, the Holy Cross and Saint Roch.

In 1895 a school was built in the village. In 1903 a consumer and craft cooperative was founded, which worked well until the war of 1914.
