history
The name Dragove comes from the noun "Draga" (valley between mountains). It was mentioned for the first time in 1359. The area was already inhabited in Roman times, as evidenced by the remains of Roman buildings under the Dumbovice hill and its parish church dates from the 12th to 13th centuries. Old ecclesiastical schemes state that the inhabitants of Dragove settled here from the Bosnian village of Vidovice in the diocese of Sarajevo . Its territory belonged to the Drago family in the 14th century, from whom it was bought in the 15th century by the Salomoni family, also from Zadar. The Church of Our Lady of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built on the 131-meter-high Dubovica hill in the early 15th century . Dragone has also suffered badly from the emigration. In 1921 almost 400 people still lived in the village. Now there are only 40 left.
There is still a submarine bunker of the Yugoslav Army near Dragove. The bunker was used for submarines or speedboats. Today it is a popular destination.
