Period of the People's Republic of Poland

The decision to build the nitrogen fertilizer factory in Puławy was made on December 19, 1960. After a construction period of five years, production of ammonia and urea started on June 4, 1966 . From 1967 to 1970 the production of carbon dioxide and dry ice followed .

In 1970 the decision was made to build a production facility for caprolactam , and from 1975 to 1977 the first production line for melamine was built .

In the 1980s, the first advances in environmental protection were made . Among other things, a sewage treatment plant was built on the production line for caprolactam. At the same time, the range of artificial fertilizers was expanded: the first two-component fertilizer was produced, a saltpetre-urea solution.

Period of the Third Republic of Poland

On September 1, 1992, the company was converted into a state-owned joint-stock company and was given its current name. On November 14, 1995 the production line for hydrogen peroxide was started . A plant for sodium orthoborane followed on November 15, 1998. In addition, technologically obsolete production lines for urea and ammonia were replaced and modernized.

Between 2000 and 2004, two new production lines for melamine were started up one after the other in cooperation with Eurotecnica, and since then the company has had a 10 percent share in the world production of this chemical compound .

Until 2005, the state owned 99.99% of the company's shares. In 2005 the company was privatized by going public on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW), but the state retained a majority stake.

On October 30, 2007, the Starachowice Special Economic Zone with the Puławy Subzone was decided. Zakłady Azotowe Puławy SA is located in the Puławy Business Park within the Puławy sub-zone and covers an area of ​​approximately 99 hectares.

In 2008, Zakłady Azotowe Puławy SA received the approval for the expansion of the capacity for urea by approx. 270,000 t / year and Ad Blue up to 100,000 t / year under the regulations for the special economic zone. These investments ended in 2010. At the same time, the Air Liquide company received the commercial license in the area of ​​the Special Economic Zone for the production of technical gases for the purposes of Zakłady Azotowe Puławy SA and other customers.

In 2011, the company acquired a 98.43 percent stake in the Gdansk plant for phosphorus fertilizers "Fosfory Sp z oo" and expanded its trading offer to include phosphorus fertilizers and fertilizer mixtures.

In 2012, the company acquired an 85 percent stake in the chemical plants in Chorzów Adipol-Azoty SA, and expanded its trading offering to include potassium nitrate , calcium nitrate and chemical food additives .
