The Krasnoyarsk Central Stadium ( Russian Центральный (стадион, Красноярск) ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Russian city ​​of Krasnoyarsk . The space in the stadium of the third largest Siberian city ​​is limited to 15,000 seats for safety reasons. It is the home ground of the Yenisei Krasnoyarsk football club . The club rose to the highest Russian league for the first time in the 2018/19 season .

history

The central stadium is located on an island in the Yenisei River . On October 29, 1967, the facility was inaugurated after two and a half years of construction. The design came from the architect Witali Orechow . It is part of the city's sports complex, which u. a. include a sports hall, tennis facility and several soccer training fields. Initially, the stadium held 35,000 spectators. With the exception of a small roof on the main grandstand, visitors sit in a wide area under the open sky.

On February 17, 2012, the first VHL Russian Classic took place in the stadium . The Hockey Game in the open air, similar to the NHL Winter Classic , the standing Sokol Krasnoyarsk and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl against. The two rugby union teams Krasny Jar Krasnoyarsk and Yenisei-STM Krasnoyarsk use the stadium for important matches .

Due to the lack of a roof and the harsh Siberian climate, the stadium fell into disrepair over the years. In 2013, the north and south stands were closed to spectators and the capacity was halved.

The Winter Universiade is scheduled to take place in Krasnoyarsk in March 2019 . The central stadium and the other grounds will be renovated for the event. We aim to complete the work by the end of 2018. The stadium should have 12,000 seats for the Universiade.
