The Zimmerbach is a creek with the longest upper course 11¾ km long on the middle Albtrauf near Bisingen in the Zollernalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg , which flows below Hechingen - Stein from the left and south into the Neckar tributary Starzel . It arises from the confluence of its two headwaters, Weidenbach and Sulzbach, in Bisingen -zimmer .

course

The brook arises in rooms at about 545  m above sea level. NN from the confluence of its right and longer source stream Weidenbach with the left and somewhat shorter Sulzbach . Both arise quite high up on the Albtrauf at an altitude of about 785  m above sea level. NN on the slopes of Zeller Horn and Blasenberg . On their course of 3.4 km (Weidenbach) or 3.2 km (Sulzbach) to the confluence they lose about 240 m in height, which shows the great erosion power of the two and their tributaries. Numerous small tributaries coming from the right arise on the right foothills of the Alb from Zeller Horn and the upstream Hohenzollern , crowned by the Hohenzollern Castle , including the Weilerwiesbach and the Finkenbach , which make the right upper reaches of the Weidenbach richer.

After the village, the Zimmerbach, created in Zimmer, crosses under the embankment of the Zollernalbbahn and shortly afterwards, after around one kilometer, reaches Wessingen . 600 meters west-northwest of Wessingen, a large bridge structure of the four-lane federal highway 27 spans the Zimmerbach. A few meters north of the bridge, the Außenbach , the longest tributary, flows in from the left . Two kilometers further, it passes the village of Weilheim , which belongs to Hechingen, on the left slope. Before the end of its course, the hillside and alluvial forest fills the valley again, in this section, right at the beginning, a longer tributary flows into the Weiherbach from the left for the last time. Then the Zimmerbach flows 11.8 km below its farthest source and 8.4 km below the confluence of its upper branches at the Stauffenberger Hof from the left and south into the Starzel , between Hechingen- Stein upstream and Rangendingen downstream.

Catchment area

The Zimmerbach drains an area of 25⅓ km² on and in front of the Albtrauf over the Starzel to the Neckar . The catchment area is less than 9½ km long, north-northwest oriented strip with a fairly constant width of less than 3½ km, in which the course of the brook holds roughly the middle. In the north near the mouth, smaller tributaries compete with the Starzel. The watershed then runs south-southeast over the Alb foothills from Bismarckhöhe ( 643.4  m above sea level ), Berg Hohenzollern or Zollers ( 850  m above sea level ) and Zeller Horn to the Raichberg ( 956  m above sea level ) on the Albtrauf; on the other side the neighboring river Reichenbach drains in the same direction to the Starzel . Then the catchment boundary runs south-west to the escarpment to Blasenberg ( 886.3  m above sea level. NN ), in this section it is European watershed from the catchment area of the longer, beyond in the opposite direction to the Danube pulling Schmiecha . It descends quickly from the bladder mountain into the foothills of the Alb near the Bisingen district of Thanheim and then moves, morphologically not very pronounced, north-north-west to the Grosselfingen area . Up to there competes to the left of the Zimmerbach , also larger Eyach, which flows directly into the Neckar . From Grosselfingen back to the estuary, the watershed runs north-northeast towards the catchment area of the shorter Rangendinger Starzel tributary Talbach .

The majority of the catchment area is in the open. Forests stand on the slopes of the Albtraufs and the ridge that accompanies the brook for a long time, as well as on the last two kilometers on both sides of the course, where the brook has again reached a considerable depth. Tributaries on the middle course drain some isolated forest areas in the foothills of the Alb.

Tributaries

Sights and buildings

The Zimmerbach has created an erosion bay in its upper course, on the eastern edge of which the Hohenzollern Castle crowns the peak of the spur on a standstill northern foothill of the Alb in front of the neighboring Reichenbach to the east .

Less than a kilometer above the confluence of the Zimmerbach into the Starzel, to the east, above the wooded Unterlauftal valley, at a distance of 400 meters, is the Hohenzollern Castle of Lindich .
