History and culture

Mürzzuschlag - Langenwang around 1876 (recording sheet of
the state survey ) : Zimmerdorf, old village, location no longer on the Semmeringstrasse which has been extended to the Chaussee

The village was probably already in the 11th / 12th. Founded in the 16th century, a second period of intensive settlement in the Mürz Valley (Langenwang and Pichlwang were probably founded before 900, Mürzzuschlag probably has Slavic roots), and was originally called Simonsdorf . It is characterized by its location on the road to the Semmering Pass .

When Hönigsberg began to grow rapidly as a factory settlement around the steelworks - the former Neuhammer from 1550/60, then Bleckmann Stahlwerke / Böhler-Bleckmann , today Böhler Bleche - the small town increasingly became a district of Hönigsberg. In 1940 Gutenbrunn, Zimmerdorf and Hönigsberg von Langenwang were incorporated into the city of Mürzzuschlag.

The local chapel, the Steindl Chapel , was donated in 1889 by the brickworks owner Anton Steindl. Until 1949 it was the church of the Gutenbrunners, Zimmerdorfer and Hönigsbergers, then the community moved to an emergency church in Hönigsberg. Today's parish church , a converted factory hall, was completed and consecrated in 1958, and Hönigsberg was made a parish in 1962. The Steindl Chapel was then unused for a long time and was not renovated again until the late 1980s.

As early as 1878 members of the Zimmerdorfer Musikanten and the Knappenmusik Illach founded the Langenwang Music Club .
