The Hönigsberg settlement is 3 kilometers out of the valley before Mürzzuschlag, on the Mürz , mostly on the left , southern bank, scattered houses also on the right bank up the mountain to the Roßkogel  ( 1,479  m above sea level , Mürzsteg Alps ).

The place has almost 550 buildings with about 2200 inhabitants, most of them in the place itself. The settlement area also includes the Gutenbrunn settlement (the place is also spread over both communities) and the steelworks Böhler Bleche (in the Mürzzuschlag part), and the Pichlbauer farms (Mürzzuschlag), Seppbauer, Höflbauer, Veitlbauer, Klotzbauer, Leitenbauer, Turmbauer, Riegler, Eberl , and anyway the Zwicklbauer weekend houses and the Hönigsberger Alm up the slope (the latter all in the Langenwanger area).

Today Hönigsberg, Zimmerdorf and Gutenbrunn are largely grown together.

History, economy and infrastructure

To the crucified Savior Hönigsberg
Mürzzuschlag - Langenwang around 1876 (recording sheet of
the state survey ) : Hönigberg on the Sonnhang, in the Neuhammer valley, and unregulated Mürzauen at the location of the current location,

The Hönigsberg - the sunny slope of the Roßkogel - was originally called Haunsberg . The settlement in the valley is relatively new.

One of the two Böhler Bleche plants is located in Hönigsberg . In 1550/60 Christoph Riss built the Neuhammer here (the old hammer was in Langenberg), in which iron from the Erzberg was processed and "negotiated" about the Semmering.
In 1842 the railway line from Bruck an der Mur to Mürzzuschlag - on the other side of Mürz, at today's steelworks - was laid through here, and from 1848 it was connected to Lower Austria with the Ghega'schen Semmering Railway .

Neuhammer and Sagmühl were acquired at the turn of the century by Johann H. A. Bleckmann for his Bleckmann steelworks (the original Phoenix hammer in Lambach ) and converted into rolling mills . Later the Lower Austrian Böhler-Werke and Bleckmann merged, then came to VOEST , and today belong to the Austrian-Swedish group of companies Böhler-Uddeholm .
Hönigsberg then began to grow rapidly from the 1920s, today's Hofer settlement was the workers' houses, masters' houses and officials' houses were also built. Today's Schulstrasse was a rail system from the Steindl brickworks to the Schoeller-Bleckmann factory.
Hönigsberg is also the location of a company fire brigade .

In 1940 the place (with Zimmerdorf and Gutenbrunn) of Langenwang was incorporated into the city of Mürzzuschlag.

1980–1985 the Semmering expressway  (S6) was built, there is a junction at Hönigsberg , east of the town.

Hönigsberg has also been the seat of a Catholic parish since a young age (raised to a parish on February 1, 1962). The former Casino Hönigsberg is now a meeting point for Volkshilfe Steiermark .

traffic

The Hönigsberg stop is on the southern railway . Numerous regional trains stop, which basically go in the direction of Bruck an der Mur or Mürzzuschlag . However, trains to Leoben , Friesach , Neumarkt , Unzmarkt , Graz and Spielfeld-Straß are often extended.

Culture and sights

The parish church of the crucified Savior is a typical example of Styrian church modernism . It is a former factory hall (a stamping plant that was never put into operation), converted into a church after 1949. The glass windows come from Edith Temmel from Graz . The church is a listed building .

The traditional brass band, the Böhler Mürzzuschlag-Hönigsberg factory band, was founded in 1923 as a workers' music association.
