history
A spearhead from the last interglacial period (183,000 to 118,000 BC) was found in the white lead pit near chapels. The whole area was then covered by a dense jungle, the Cerewald . Only the peaks of the Rax and the Schneealm were not forested. This forest was closed until the Middle Ages.

In 1460, the church and the associated goods became the property of Neuberg Abbey . After this monastery was dissolved in the course of the Josefin reforms , Kapellen became an independent local curatie in 1786 and an independent parish in 1859.
