action

Chief Inspector Claudius Zorn is a solitary, disillusioned investigator who is quite relaxed about his reputation for not being particularly successful. He likes to leave unpleasant tasks such as office work to his assistant, Chief Inspector Schröder, who deliberately overlooks the quirks of his boss and goes about his work with obvious enthusiasm.

One evening in a rainy autumn hall a woman is knocked down from behind by a hooded perpetrator in a dark side street. In the cellar of a demolished house the offender binds the woman to a chair, cut her arteries in the knees by and let them bleed to death. The next day the pool of blood is found, but there is no trace of the corpse. Prosecutor Sauer entrusts Zorn and Schröder with the case and reveals Zorn that he has been watching him for a long time and that he wants to give him a chance. Zorn should inform him about every little detail of the investigation. He is not very enthusiastic about the amount of work, but Schröder begins to work meticulously and with enthusiasm.

On the same day, a second death was reported: a suicide. Her husband, Henning Mahler, tells Zorn about the severe depression his wife has suffered since their daughter's bicycle accident. The girl was run over by an unknown driver, has been in hospital since then and may never be able to walk again.

Eventually the body of the first victim is found on a bench near the Gimritzer weir on the Saale . However, the woman cannot initially be identified. Zorn studies the file received from Sauer with the previous investigation results. He notices that some pages are missing. This arouses his distrust of Sauer. He meets with Sauer's secretary Hannah Saborowski, who has already made him clear advances , and lets her know that he suspects Sauer may have manipulated the investigation documents. She promises to help him because she knows where Sauer keeps his key to the safe . In return, she demands that anger get involved, but this justifies his lack of libido with excessive sensitivity.

The next day, in Sauer's absence, Hannah finds the missing documents in his safe and hands them over to Zorn. It shows that the deceased recently had an abortion and was wearing a pacemaker with a registration number that could have been used to identify her immediately. Since it is unclear what interest Sauer could have in withholding information, Zorn feels challenged and shadows him. Sauer, on the other hand, discovered on his return to the office that Hannah had betrayed him. In the evening he leaves his apartment and can shake off anger when he goes to a neighboring bar and disappears there without a trace. Meanwhile Schröder was in the apartment of Sigrun Bosch, the first dead woman. On her answering machine, he finds a message from an unknown man who threatens her because of an abortion.

When Hannah goes home in the evening, she feels persecuted and calls Anger. But he gets rid of them because he is currently visiting his neighbor Malina, who works in the same bar where Sauer could go into hiding. Hannah is knocked down from behind, tied up and bled to death in the same way as the first victim. The next day, Zorn is lured to the brigade by a fictitious SMS and, to his horror, finds her body on a bench. A short time later, Sauer's body also appears. He was stabbed to death, hung upside down on the tower bridge of St. Mary's Church and tumbled down onto the market square.

Prosecutor Borck, the successor of the murdered Sauer, reluctantly leaves Zorn with the further investigation. Schröder finds out that there is a connection between public prosecutor Sauer, Henning Mahler and the bar owner Robert Stapic, who is also Malina's uncle: They served together in the military . Despite Schröder's warning, Zorn wants to look around the bar. Its owner is known to the police because he was in a relationship with the first victim, Sigrun Bosch, and has been reported by her for abuse. Zorn confronts Stapic with it and wants to take him to the presidium. When Stapic opens the nearby parked vehicle with the remote control, it blows up. The explosion incapacitates Anger, and Stapic pulls away.

Once again conscious, Zorn is called by Mahler, who has also gone into hiding and now wants to meet with him. In the meantime, Schröder learns that Stapic kidnapped Mahler's daughter from the hospital. Since Zorn cannot be reached by phone, Schröder searches Stapic's bar on his own and finds the girl sitting in the wheelchair there. He is surprised, overwhelmed and stabbed by Stapic. Meanwhile, Zorn meets with Mahler. On the drive to a remote industrial area, he brings light into the darkness: He, Sauer and Stapic served in the NVA and met every now and then to celebrate after their service hours. At the last party five years ago, they drove home drunk through that remote industrial area and ran over a woman who did not survive the accident. Since there were no witnesses besides them, they decided to have the body disappear and cover Mahler as the driver, also so as not to endanger Sauer's beginning career as a prosecutor. When Sigrun Bosch recently reported Stapic and had his child aborted, Stapic got in revenge in contact with Mahler, who was supposed to kill her in return for his silence, while he got himself an alibi . Since Mahler initially refused, Stapic drove to his daughter to emphasize his demand, so that Mahler finally carried out the act. It was also Stapic who then killed Hannah and Sauer when he believed he was in danger of being discovered. Now Stapic is on the way to see him with Mahler's daughter, not knowing that he has brought the chief inspector with him.

A short time later, Stapic actually arrives. It turns out that Mahler had placed the bomb in Stapic's car. When the two of them yell at each other in the street, Zorn sneaks up behind, but Stapic notices this and knocks him down. In the scuffle that followed, he was shot by Mahler. He asks Zorn to look after his daughter, goes away and shoots himself. Finally, Zorn rushes to the hospital with a phone call, where he arrives just in time to see Schröder, seriously injured, but conscious and confident as always being transported to the OR .

background

In a conversation with the dpa news agency, Mišel Matičević replied to a corresponding question that he did not know "whether a person and thus a figure can only believably move through life with a mood". It is not just about the Commissioner, but also about the people behind him. And it is not the case that every commissioner or person is cheerful and always goes through life in a good mood. When asked why the job of a detective is so popular with actors and viewers, he said it might be “childhood leftovers. Didn't we almost all always want to play robbers and gendarmes? ”And since as an adult one is too old for such games, one likes to watch such acts.

Reviews

“[…] This film accentuates every dark German reality translated into crime in its own convincing way. What a surprise, and that with a production that was commissioned by ARD sweetener manufacturer Degeto. "

- Joachim Huber : The Tagesspiegel

“Misel Matičević, who has been subscribing to tough prowling heroes since ' Hotte im Paradies ', embodies the loser with great enthusiasm, even if the character sometimes walks a fine line in film. In some places the strong expressions and middle fingers take over. "

- Uwe Ebbinghaus : Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

TV Spielfilm gave the film one of three possible points for humor, ambition, action and eroticism, two for tension, pointed the thumb up, spoke of a “bizarre row against the grain” and came to the conclusion: “That something other team: nasty abysmal! " TV Movie saw it similarly and said," Two unusual police officers want to shed light on the darkness. "Conclusion:" Darkly captivating and yet funny. "

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv gave the film five out of six possible stars and summarized: “Lots of corpses, lots of blood, lots of night, lots of rain. 'Zorn - Blut und Regen' relies on images, on atmosphere, on cinematic qualities. The film by Mark Schlichter based on the novel by Stephan Ludwig creates its own world between Halle wrecking ball reality and the deep pain of an anger investigator with emotion. Everything falls apart next to Commissioner Zorn - only cheerful Schröder holds the position. A thriller with style, soul and irony. A genre construct that works better than all of the other, much more prominent new ARD crime concepts of the past two years. And the chemistry between Matičević and Ranisch is perfect! ”The critic continues to be amazed:“ One would have expected two pleasantly disconcerting inspectors from Degeto and MDR as the last one. ”The film has“ the most unusual crime concept that an ARD broadcaster has presented in the last two years “. It is "a thriller with style, with soul, with irony" - "a film made from one piece".

Tilmann P. Gangloff , who rated the film for evangelisch.de , was of the opinion that the fundamentally great Mišel Matičević was a wonderful cast for this rather shabby inspector. The critic said, "not only Matičević, also Katrin Bauerfeind [...] and Katharina Nesytowa" [...] provided "acting highlights". The fact that "for Axel Ranisch this only applies to a limited extent" is "not to be blamed on the actor". The “overall quality of the film” would also be “not diminished” by the comedy interludes to be criticized. The cast of Lucas Gregorowicz and Thorsten Merten is also “interesting” and “the resolution of the story, which turns out to be a pact with the devil”, is “a real highlight”. But “outstanding” is “the design by Benedict Neuenfels. The night light in which he [e] dips Halle is true art ”.

On the page Kino.de it was said, "Misel Maticevic" embodies the title giving, "eternally ill-tempered chief inspector perfect". Co-screenwriter Ludwig, who lives in Halle, cleverly moves “his” city into the center of the action - prefabricated buildings, dark streets, winding alleys, industrial sites. The always stylish Benedict Neuenfels takes care of the night-black, wet and cold pictures - lots of shadow, little light. The thriller-experienced Mark Schlichter increases the tension, soon the violence explodes in the literal sense. A thriller that deserves its name. To be continued - hopefully! "

Focus wrote that in the ARD crime thriller 'Zorn - Tod und Regen' it was "pretty gloomy", and in Halle / Saale there seemed to be "many dark corners". In any case, director Mark Schlichter and cameraman Benedict Neuenfels staged them “in detail, which also applies to the strange-looking pair of investigators” who “congenially” go together. “The laconic interplay of the two actors” is “really fun - which could also be due to the fact that Stephan Ludwig, the author of the Zorn novels, is also the co-author of the script”.

Julian Miller fromquotemeter.de could not gain anything from the film and reproached: "The potential of this not uninteresting figure anger and the talent of his actor - they are wasted in order to banalize what is essentially exciting material as banalized as possible and to give him all kinds of brain-burned conventions to put on until at the end there is little more than ingratiating stuff left. You could almost get angry there. "

Kester Schlenz von Stern put it in a similarly drastic way , who wrote that the film “really knocks you out. Because it is as bad as it is annoying ". Schlenz wanted to know why they “do something like that to us viewers” and why “a great actor like Mišel Matičević” is selling himself so “below value” and why Katrin Bauerfeind of all people is “throwing back the women's movement by 50 years with a dumb role in this film” . It was also said that this first case made "however little desire for sequels". In the end, Schlenz delivered “The verdict: This film is willful assault. A really hard case. There are no extenuating circumstances ”.

The film service also rated the film rather negatively. There it was said: “Carefully put on (TV) crime thriller, which, above all, does not draw a profile from its charming cast, but rather presses the qualities of the actors into conventionally reproduced role clichés. Even with little trust in the remarkable camera work, the film relies on an overly twisted script and shows a lot of blood. - From 16. "
