Face ID

The iPhone X is a smartphone from the iPhone series from the US company Apple . It was presented to the public on September 12, 2017 together with the cheaper iPhone 8 and 8 Plus models as part of a keynote speech by Apple CEO Tim Cook . Delivery began on November 3, 2017. It is a successor to the iPhone 7 and the predecessor of the iPhones XS and XS Max . It was the first model in a new display and price category. The iPhone costs almost $ 1000 in the US and over € 1000 in Europe. It is the first iPhone with a borderless display, no home button and FaceID. After the presentation of the successor models, production of the iPhone X was stopped in autumn 2018.

Characteristics

For the first time in the in-house development line, it has an OLED and HDR screen with a 5.8-inch diagonal and a resolution of 2436 × 1125 pixels. The device offers support for TrueTone , HDR10 and Dolby Vision . On the glazed back it has a twin camera with twelve megapixels , which enables video recordings in 1080p with up to 240 fps and in 4K with up to 60 fps. The front camera has seven megapixels and allows video recording in 1080p. A “portrait light” setting is possible with both cameras, which allows various light effects to be created on the face and in the background, e.g. B. to completely darken the background.

The smartphone no longer has a home button and can be activated with face recognition (" Face ID ") and assigned to a user. It is charged with Apple's own Lightning connector or wirelessly via Qi . The device is based on the private A11-Bionic - SoC and is available with 64 GB or 256 GB of storage. It is certified according to protection class IP67. The display reaches a brightness of up to 809 nits .

Model name

The "X" in the name is a Roman number for ten and is supposed to refer to the 10-year history of the iPhone series. The manufacturer tried to enforce the name as "iPhone Ten " (in English "iPhone ten" ), not as "iPhone X".
