Sydney Matilda Lohmann (German pronunciation: [ˈloːman]; born 19 June 2000) is a German professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Frauen-Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the Germany national team.[2]

Club career

Sydney Lohmann grew up in Pürgen in Upper Bavaria. In her childhood she first played for SV Lengenfeld, then for VfL Kaufering, both in the district of Landsberg am Lech.

From the youth team at SC Fürstenfeldbruck, Lohmann switched to the youth department of FC Bayern Munich for the 2016/17 season. For the B youth team, she played six league games in the junior Bundesliga and scored two goals. Her debut on September 17, 2016 (1st matchday) in a 3-1 win in the home game against the B youth team of 1. FC Nürnberg was crowned with her first goal, the goal to make it 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 20th minute.[3]

At the same time, Lohmann was already active for the second team in the 2nd Bundesliga South. For this she made her debut on August 28, 2016 (1st matchday) in a 1-0 win in the away game against 1. FC Saarbrücken. In the second leg against this team, she scored her first goal in the 88th minute in a 3-1 win at home on February 19, 2017 (12th matchday) with the goal to make it 2-1.

On March 19, 2017 (matchday 14), the attacking midfielder made her debut in the Bundesliga when FC Bayern Munich lost 2-0 in the away game against VfL Wolfsburg over 90 minutes. She scored her first Bundesliga goal on November 5, 2017 (matchday 7) in a 3-1 win in the home game against MSV Duisburg, scoring 2-1 in the 29th minute. With her penalty kick converted in the 90th minute at SGS Essen on October 4, 2020 (4th matchday), she not only scored the winning goal to make it 2-0, but also the 1000th for a Bayern team in the Bundesliga.

On November 5, 2020, Lohmann extended her contract with FC Bayern Munich through 2024.[4]

International career.

Lohmann made her debut in the national jersey of the DFB in the U15 national team on October 28, 2014, which won 13-0 in Glasgow against the host team. She scored her first two international goals two days later at the same place in an 8-0 win in the second game against the Scotland U15 national team.

She has won seven caps for the U16 national team, making her debut on June 29, 2015 in a 2-1 win over Norway in the Nordic Cup tournament in Denmark.

She made her debut for the U17 national team on March 19, 2016 in a 2-0 win over Switzerland. With the U17 national team, she took part in the European Championship held in Belarus from May 4 to 16, 2016. She helped win the tournament with her two group games on 4 and 7 May against Spain and Italy, which ended 2-2 and 0-0.[5]

She made her debut for the U19 national team on April 3, 2018 in Senec in an 8-0 victory over Slovakia in the second-round qualifier of Group 2 for the 2018 European Championship in Switzerland.

She made her debut for the senior national team on November 10, 2018 in Osnabrück in a 5-2 win in a friendly against the Italy national team, coming on for Lina Magull coming on in the 71st minute.[6] She scored her first international goal on September 22, 2020 in the seventh European Championship qualifier in Group I in a 3-0 win against the national team of Montenegro, scoring the final score in the 59th minute.

National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg called her into the squad for the 2022 European Championship in England. The German team reached the final but fell short of the England national team. Lohmann was used in four games.[7]
