Magdalena "Magda" Eriksson (born September 8, 1993 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish soccer player who has been under contract with the English first division club Chelsea since 2017. Before that, she played five years for the Swedish first division club Linköpings FC , with whom she won the cup twice and the championship in 2016.
Career
societies
Eriksson began playing football at the Stockholm suburban club Enskede IK and moved to Stockholm first division club Hammarby IF in 2009 , where she initially played in the youth team and from 2011 in the first team. When the club was relegated for the first time in 2011, she moved to the other Stockholm first division club Djurgårdens IF . After Djurgården was relegated at the end of the 2012 season, she switched to Linköpings FC , for whom she made 77 league appearances in the following four seasons. In the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons she won the Swedish Football Cup twice in a row with Linköping, as well as the championship in 2016 after three seasons in the upper third of the table. The team is now qualified for the round of 32 of the 2017/18 UEFA Women's Champions League . Already in the 2014/15 season she took part with Linköping in the UEFA Women's Champions League 2014/15 , for which the team took part in third place in the 2013 championship instead of runner-up Tyresö FF, who had run into financial difficulties . Eriksson appeared in six games and was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Danish champions Brøndby IF after a 1-0 home defeat and a 1-1 second leg. She also scored a goal in the round of 16 in a 5-0 home win against Zvezda 2005 Perm .
For the 2017/18 season she moved to England to the Chelsea Ladies . Her first league appearance for England was on September 24, 2017 in a 6-0 win against Bristol City, where she scored the interim 4-0 with her first goal for Chelsea. Chelsea finished the season with a double . In the 2017/18 UEFA Women's Champions League , in which it was used in all eight games, Chelsea eliminated German runners-up FC Bayern Munich in the round of 32, but failed in the semi-finals against German champions VfL Wolfsburg . In 2018/19 , Chelsea made it to the semi-finals, where defending champions Olympique Lyon were one goal better.
National team
Eriksson played for various Swedish youth national teams and won the European Championship title with the U-19 team in 2012 . In November 2013, it was of national coach Pia Sundhage first time at a training camp of the senior national team invited. She then made her debut on February 8, 2014 in a friendly against the selection of France in the senior team. Shortly thereafter, she sustained a knee injury and had to take a three-month break. In qualifying for the 2015 World Cup, she only came on as a substitute in the 5-0 win against the Faroe Islands in the second half and was not nominated for the World Cup. On January 26, 2016, she scored her first international goal in a 6-0 win against Scotland. In March 2016, she took part with the Swedish team in the qualifying tournament for the last European starting place at the 2016 Olympic Games . She was used in the two 1-0 victories against Norway and Switzerland and secured the starting place with her team in Rio . There she was used in five games and won the silver medal with her team after a final defeat against Germany . But she only played over 90 minutes in the group matches against China and South Africa . In the group game against hosts Brazil , she was substituted in the second half, against the USA in the quarter-finals and Germany in the final for the last 20 regular minutes of the game. On October 21, 2016, like Olivia Schough , she scored three goals in a 7-0 win against Iran , but like most of the teammates, she was replaced in the second half, in which no more goals were scored. It was also nominated for the 2017 European Championship , where it was used in the three group matches. It was not used in the quarter-finals that were lost against the Dutch women. Both teams won the Algarve Cup 2018 together , as the final could not be played against each other due to the weather.
In qualifying for the 2019 World Cup , she played in five Swedish games, scored one goal and qualified with her team for the World Cup. On May 16, she was also nominated for the World Cup . At the World Cup she was used in six games. Only in the group final against the USA was she only on the bench. She was always in the starting line-up in the other games. As group runner-up they reached the knockout round, where they won 1-0 against Canada in the round of 16 . In the quarter-finals, the Swedes won a competitive game against the German team after 24 years and thus qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games. In the semifinals, they were defeated by European champions Netherlands after extra time, but then won the game for third place against England .
