Sebastián Eguren Ledesma (born January 8, 1981 in Montevideo, Uruguay) is a footballer (midfielder) who currently plays for the Swedish club Hammarby IF. He came to the club from Norwegian club Rosenborg B.K. on loan during the later part of the 2006 season. On December 5 2006 Hammarby announced that Eguren had signed a three-year-contract to 2009 with the club. In Hammarby, he became very quickly one of the most popular players because of his fighting spirit.
He has also played for Montevideo Wanderers (in 1999–2002 and in 2005) and Nacional (2003–04).
After he tested positive for cocaine after a match in the Copa Libertadores, February 12, 2004, he was suspended from football for six months. He blamed the coca tea which is widely drunk in the Andean countries (as a medicine which alleviates the effects of altitude), and he got the shortest suspension for this kind of cases. (This specific match was played at 2,800 meters above sea level in Quito.)
On February 8 2006 it was revealed in a shocking newsrelease, that a transfer of the two Uruguayans (Eguren and Alejandro Lago) to SK Brann were cancelled, due to "psychological reasons."
In 30 January, 2008, Eguren was loaned to Villarreal CF of La Liga [1] until May 2008.
