The Girls Next Door, also known as The Girls of the Playboy Mansion, is an American reality television series broadcast on the E! cable television network. The series was created by executive producer Kevin Burns and Hugh Hefner, founder and editor-in-chief of Playboy magazine.
The tuxedo-wearing Playboy Bunny mascot is the icon for the show, appearing in its logo.
Synopsis
The series focuses on the lives of Hefner's three girlfriends who live with him at the Playboy Mansion: Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, and Kendra Wilkinson. Mr. Hefner is often on the show along with various Playmates and other celebrities.
The series not only showcases events at the Playboy Mansion (e.g. Fight Night, Fourth of July celebration, the midsummer celebration etc.), but also sheds light on other Playboy related events such as the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, Playmate test shoots at Playboy Studio West, Operation Playmate, party night, birthday parties, but more significantly the personalities and real lives of each of the Girls.
The Girls Next Door have appeared on the cover of Playboy three times. To celebrate the success of the series, Playboy published a nude pictorial of Holly, Bridget, and Kendra in the November 2005 issue. The original eight-episode run of the series was expanded to fifteen episodes with the first season finale airing in early December 2005. The series' second season began on July 30, 2006. To celebrate the launch of the second season, a second nude pictorial of the trio was published in September 2006. The third season of the show began airing March 4, 2007. Their third Playboy appearance was in the March 2008 issue, celebrating them being voted fourth in Playboy's annual "Sexiest Celebrities" online poll.
The show's theme song is Nasty Tales' remix of "Come on-a My House;" words and music by William Saroyan and Ross Bagdasarian, who later, as David Seville, created The Chipmunks.

Season 5
The Girls Next Door will return for a 5th season starting in October. This was confirmed through an interview with the girls to Star Magazine. Season 5 will consist of 20 episodes, the first four of which will be packaged with the season 4 DVD set. That way, both seasons 4 and 5 will have a total of 16 episodes in their respective sets. Season 5 will feature trips to New York, Las Vegas, Mardi Gras at New Orleans and snowboarding with Barbi Benton in Aspen, the search for the 55th anniversary Playmate, and Bridget's adventures making a horror movie.
Season 6
There is a possible chance that there also might be a sixth season of The Girls Next Door that has been confirmed by Hugh Hefner.

Cameo appearances
Since the show began, the three women have made cameo appearances in a variety of other films and television programs. They appeared in Scary Movie 4, lent their voices to an episode of Robot Chicken, and guest starred in an episode of the daytime drama General Hospital on August 29, 2008, as part of a Walter Mitty-like fantasy sequence by the character Damien Spinelli. The women have also appeared in a music video for the group Nickelback, in their song "Rockstar". They also appeared, along with Hef, in the video for "Beverly Hills" by the group Weezer, which was filmed at the Playboy Mansion. Marquardt and Wilkinson also appeared on the November 5, 2007 edition of WWE Raw as the DX dancers.
There have also been cameo appearances by many stars on the "The Girls Next Door". Many stars of different genres have been seen, and every Playmate of the Year since 2004 has appeared on the show: Carmella DeCesare (2004), Tiffany Fallon (2005), Kara Monaco (2006) and Sara Jean Underwood (2007).
On July 1, 2008 the Girls Next Door appeared on NBC’s new show Celebrity Family Feud. They competed against Vincent Pastore of Sopranos fame. They did not win. They also appeared on the July 24, 2008 episode of Last Comic Standing in which the comics read bedtime stories to them and they granted Marcus immunity.
Hef, Holly, Bridget, and Kendra appeared in the movie The House Bunny that was released in theatres on August 22, 2008.
