The Wehrmacht diesel locomotives of the type WR 200 B 14 were built in the late 1930s as shunting locomotives for the German Wehrmacht . The type designation designates a W ehrmachtslokomotive for R egelspur with 200 hp, Achsfolge B (two coupled drive axes ) and an axle load of about 14 tonnes . Like the other diesel locomotives among the war locomotives , they were initially not included in the inventory of the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

history

A total of 129 locomotives were built between 1938 and 1943 by the manufacturers Berliner Maschinenbau (BMAG), Deutz and Gmeinder as well as Jung and Deutsche Werke for the Wehrmacht. The two axles were driven by a jackshaft and coupling rods arranged between the axles ; the cab was at the rear of the locomotive.

V20 036

After the Second World War, 23 vehicles remained with the Deutsche Bundesbahn , which they ran as the V 20 series (V 20 001, 002, 005–008, 020–023, 030–041, 050) in their inventory. In 1968 the twenty locomotives still in existence at that time were given the class designation 270. In 1979, the 270 035, the last machine, was decommissioned. The use of the V 20 in passenger train service in front of the rail bus - sidecar on the Passau – Freyung railway line was unusual .

The Deutsche Reichsbahn also had four such machines in use. When the necessary repairs were carried out, the locomotives received new engines - the output remained at 200  HP (147  kW ). At the time of the new tracing plan in 1970, there was no longer a V 20 in the inventory.

In Austria a machine came to the ÖBB as 2061.01 , which it sold to STUAG in 1966 for the operation of the “ Schleppbahn Liesing ” , where it was in use until 1982. It is preserved in Hadersdorf at the Austrian Club for Diesel Locomotive History.

The locomotives had DOFA coke ovens to preheat the engines, but these were dismantled at the DB. Some locomotives also received a Sifa facility.

Eleven locomotives that were classified under WR 200 B 14 have been preserved. Eight of these locomotives come from Deutz, two from Berliner Maschinenbau and one from Jung. Some of them now have a federal railway number, although there is evidence that they were never in state railroad service.

1957 rebuilt locomotive WR 200 B 14 by Gmeinder for the Verdener Eisenbahnfreunde

A total of nine locomotives of the series were manufactured by Gmeinder in Mosbach . Four of them were completed before the end of the war. In 1946 and 1947, five locomotives were built that had no external changes compared to the pre-war machines.

Two of these locomotives have been preserved. A locomotive that was delivered to Daimler-Benz in 1947 was sold to Switzerland in 1967 . In 2003 it came back to the South German Railway Museum in Heilbronn and bears the number V 20 101 there .

Another locomotive, which was delivered to Ebano Asphalt-Werke in Hamburg in 1947, was sold to the Verden-Walsroder Railway in 1956 . The locomotive was given the designation 262 by the Lower Saxony State Railway Authority . There she suffered an engine failure. In the Niederweserbahn workshop in Wulsdorf , she was fitted with a new KHD A8M 517 engine from KHD with a reduced output of 180 hp. The engine front end could be shortened due to the lower overall height of the engine. At the same time, it received larger windows in the front wall. The locomotive was in service with the Verden-Walsroder Railway from 1958 to 1999 and was then handed over to the Verden Railway Friends.

After a gearbox damage, it was parked in 2007 and is available as a museum locomotive.
