Biblioteca Austria Timișoara ( German  Austrian Library Timişoara ) was on February 28, 1992 at Bulevardul Vasile Pârvan number 4 in III. District Elisabetin the western Romanian city ​​of Timișoara and is one of a total of 61 Austria libraries abroad . It is spatially and organizationally attached to the West University of Timişoara . The Austrian Library Timişoara was opened on February 20, 1992 in the presence of the then Austrian Foreign Minister Alois Mock . The Western University of Timisoara and the Austrian embassy in Bucharest participated in the establishment . In 2012 it is one of 61 Austrian libraries abroad that have been set up in 28 countries in Central , Eastern and Southeastern Europe since the 1980s . The Austrian library Timişoara is the largest German-language lending library in the western Romanian region with a holdings of more than 10,000 books and periodicals and around 2000 readers per year . Today it is a branch of the Central University Library and is managed by Roxana Nubert , Head of the German Studies Department . Karin Dittrich is the librarian . The library is maintained in Vienna by the Austrian Society for Literature and in Romania by the Austrian Cultural Forum Bucharest.

Goal setting

With its book inventory and its cultural program with readings by Austrian writers, lectures , concerts and exhibitions , the Austrian Library in Timisoara helps to make Austrian culture known in Romania. Guests in Timișoara were authors of modern Austrian literature such as Peter Rosei , Marianne Gruber , Ilse Tielsch , Lilian Faschinger , Karl Markus Gauß and Martin Pollack .

Over the years, lectures by cultural personalities such as Peter Kampits , Peter Wiesinger , Johannes Poigenfürst , Max Demeter Peyfuss , Harald Heppner , Harald Haslmayer and Rainer Schubert have been heard here.

From the areas comprising the basic equipment, Austrian literature , children's and young people's literature , literary studies and history have emerged as the thematic priorities. The library is mainly used by students from the German language and literature faculty, but also by students from other departments at the West University as well as by the German-speaking minority .
