The Ötztaler Radmarathon is a cycling marathon for racing cyclists that was held from 1982 to 2017 at the end of August and has been held on the first Sunday in September since 2018. The "Ötzi" is considered extremely difficult. In 2017, the same organizer held the international road bike race Pro Ötztaler 5500 for the first time two days before the bike marathon. In 2020 the Ötztal Cycle Marathon was canceled due to the ban on events, which will apply until the end of August 2020. The 40th Ötztal Cycle Marathon is scheduled to take place on August 29, 2021.

route

The route and the start / finish locations have varied since 1982. The race started and ended in Innsbruck and Mutters . Between 1994 and 2001 there were different start / finish locations along the route and since 2003 the current route has been driven with start / finish in Sölden . This variation in the routing is also the reason that the "official distance and altitude indication" of 238 km and 5500 meters in altitude (as it has been printed on the finisher jerseys since the 90s) no longer corresponds to the current route. Before 2003 the route was as follows:

  • 1982–1985: Innsbruck - Kühtai - Timmelsjoch - Jaufen - Brenner - Innsbruck
  • 1986: Innsbruck - Brenner - Jaufen - Timmelsjoch - Kühtai - Innsbruck

From the 2000s on, Mercenary Tourism took over the organization of the Ötztal Cycle Marathon and relocated the start / finish point to Sölden.

The current route is around 220 km and 5050 meters in altitude, contrary to the official length of 238 km and 5500 meters in altitude, which drivers need between 7 and 14 hours to cover.

From 2013 to 2018 the Ötztal Moped Marathon followed the route of the bike marathon.
