Šarūnas Kuliešius (born February 9, 1977 in Elektrėnai , Lithuanian SSR ) is a Lithuanian ice hockey player who has been playing for the Vilnius Hockey Punks in the Lithuanian ice hockey league since 2014 . Since 2016 he has also been the assistant coach of the Lithuanian national team .

Career

Clubs

Šarūnas Kuliešius began his career as a hockey player with the Lithuanian record champions Energija Elektrėnai , for whom he made his debut in the then East European Hockey League in 1995 at the age of 18 . In the 2001/02 season he was on the ice for the HK Nyoman Hrodna Belarusian extra league . He then returned to his hometown and was again active for SC Energija, for which he first played in the B group of EEHL and later in the Latvian league . In 2004 he moved north and moved to Bräcke IK in the third-class Swedish Division 1 . After the club from Jämtland was relegated to the bottom of the table, however, he went to the British Isles in 2005, where he played over 80 times for the Solihull Barons in the English Premier Ice Hockey League . At the age of 30 he returned to his hometown and has since played again for SC Energija, which has been competing in the Belarusian Vysschaya League since 2013 . In addition to participating in foreign and multinational leagues, SC Energija also always takes part in the playoffs of the Lithuanian championships , so that Kuliešius has been Lithuanian title holder eleven times with his team since 1996. In 2014 he moved to the Vilnius Hockey Punks , for which he has been active as a player-coach in the Lithuanian league since then .

International

For Lithuania, Kuliešius already took part in the junior division in world and European championships.

He made his debut in the Lithuanian men's national team at the 1996 World Cup , which was held in Kaunas and Elektrėnai . The Lithuanians managed to win the title and rise with five wins from five games. In 1997 , 1998 , 1999 and 2000 he represented his colors at the C World Championship. In 2000, the Lithuanians managed to move up to the newly created Division I as fourth. There he could not prevent the relegation of the Balts in the following year , who lost the game against the Netherlands , which was decisive for relegation, just 3-2. In 2002 succeeded with five wins from five games and 71: 6 goals, the immediate return to Division I. Kuliešius contributed significantly to the rise with eight goals and seven assists.
